I have always found his books informative , entertaining, and easy to digest. I am a 1370 USCF player, so I spend more time studying tactics than Openings. So when I do use my time to study these, I need the info to be percise, and not too overwhelming for a player of my ranking. An|About the Author|GM Andrew Soltis lives in New York, and is one of America's most popular authors, with many, many chess books under his belt. He is also a chess columnist for the New York times.

Using a Socratic teacher-student approach in the characters of GM Noah Tall, and Pat Sayre, the topic of this aspect of chess centers around the subjects of materialism, give and take, myths, difficulties, picking and choosing, rules, decisions, de-booking, and many more—dealt with from a veteran chess grandmaster's perspective.
